On the home front it's been a busy but happy week. The estate matters that had been crawling along for nearly two years finally resolved, meaning we have another 40 grand, and don't have to worry about any of that drama again. The job I've been temping at have said I'll get a full time position, and sent on training courses. It's physically demanding, especially right now as we're rolling out something like 17000 large recycling bins across the region. They arrive via shipping containers in stacks of 14, and between the aches and pains of dealing with that I'm noticing I'm getting fitter and stronger.

Anyway it's well past time I got this ad done. I'm gonna write the draft here, and modify it in post.

Helios book 2.

What came before.

Helios book 1 was a four year play by forum post campaign that ended in June 2019. Based loosely on books by Dean Koontz. Set in an alternative 2020 Detroit it involved a covert war against Victor Helios, a billionaire secretly replacing people with the intent of eliminating the human race in favour of his own creations, the deeply flawed New Race. During the campaign it was revealed that Victor was likely a two century old Victor Frankenstein. Still alive thanks to an exotic energy he also used in animating his clone empire.

The plot is further complicated by aliens known as Providers arriving in the alternate 2016. Helios stole from them a genetic and tech database, and used it to experiment on thousands of captive humans, and vastly more though a business takeover of much of the worlds prison systems. Book 1's heroes emerged as escaped experimental subjects, with superhuman abilities that have grown over the course of the game. Events progressed from survival horror to super-heroics as the scaled of power slipped from Victors grasp.

Where we are now.

Frankenstein is dead! Bested by our heroes on the 3rd of October 2020. With his death his empire crumbled instantly. Active New Race clones of politicians, police, media, and others have dropped dead by the millions creating mass chaos. The prisons and secret prisons that were under Helios control are failing, releasing the empowered across the globe. The world is irrevocably changed.

The player base.

During the 1st campaign enhanced prisoners were liberated from another secret Helios lab, and more from a Helios controlled psychiatric hospital. New characters can be already present as some of those rescued, constrained from previous field work by fear for loved ones, or medical needs. Or with the recent chaos new heroes can emerge from freshly failed Helios facilities. The heroes have an underground base constructed for them by the Providers, and are beginning a relationship with the US government.

The system.

Helios uses 'Edge' a game system developed in New Zealand, and adapted for the setting. The rules are self contained on the Helios forums, and players have found character development easy and highly adaptable. It uses a point buy process. Die rolls are typically handled by the DM for expedience, although there has been a die roller added to the forum.

Where.

Content looks awesome! I took the liberty of a little proofreading.

Found time to apply those changes, and probably to put this up in a few places. We'll need a purposeful hiatus to give time for potential interest, but I can start on the chapter opening posts, and perhaps begin archive work on the book 1 chapters. Dropping the edited ad below so I can copy paste from it.

I submitted the ad to PBM.com a couple days ago. It's not there yet, probably still awaiting moderation. Also advertised on a nz roleplaying Facebook page, but that's less likely to get responses.

When I've time I'll take another look through rpggeek.com, rpg.net, giantitp.com, thetangledweb.net, rpol.net, myth-weavers.com, and anything else I can find. On my initial look I couldn't easily find where to post about off-site games on any of those. There should be options on some of them.

Most of those have a 'looking for players' folder, bot sure if they're site-specific but I think not.

Good to know, thanks GG. Shouldn't matter too much. The facebook ad didn't draw any interest. The ad I sent to the PBEM list hasn't gone up, but no others have gone up for over a month, so I wonder if the admin is away.

It's the weekend so I'm home. I'll try to get some more advertising out there when baby Rose isn't too demanding.

If there's no interest we could try continuing with the two and a bit players we have now. It's worked for the last couple of years, although I dm better with more player feedback to fuel things. If either of you think you're up to separating the motives you could run two characters? Even run a second character via a different login if that would feel cleaner?

I've put an ad up on rpggeek.com's forums. I'm checking forum rules as I go, and hopefully that ad doesn't violate any.

Some of the sites don't like ads for off site games. Some don't allow url links unless you're an established poster. Some allow offsite ads but only once, which could be an issue if they don't think the new url and 'book 2' are distinct enough. I'm trying to be respectful of the local rules, but I might miss some of them if I'm not careful, and Rose is being a bit distracting. Also I've gotta be careful to start following any sites I do advertise on as potential players may ask questions or pm me there.

Anyway I'll keep at it and note back here where I've advertised or couldn't advertise.

Edit: New advert at rpg.net

Edit: Need five more posts at giantitp.com before I can include a wed address. I'll leave that for now, maybe I can find some conversation to join to pad my post count sensibly.

Edit: The rules at thetangledweb.net expressly prohibit posting about offsite forums, so I'm dropping that as an option.

Edit: rpol.net is extremely restrictive about offsite posting, ditched as an option.

The rules at myth-weavers.com

Offsite Advertising/Gaming

Myth Weavers exists as a complete play-by-post gaming website. Advertising other sites on Myth Weavers or using parts of Myth Weavers to advertise games that will be played exclusively on other sites is not permitted. Feel free to use site resources such as sheets and wiki but do not advertise the game.

Use of the Games & Ads forum to advertise for your game is permissible if and only if the game is being played in some capacity via Myth-Weavers (specify what in the ad), and the ad title and description explicitly call out any external tool usage. While you are free to establish a game here and play via Roll20, IRC, Skype, or Tabletop, etc, at least some part of the gaming must take place at Myth-Weavers. That can come in many forms, including but not limited to an adventure log or OOC forum.

Again, games are subject to all site content rules, which means that linking to inappropriate material is still prohibited.

So I'll respect that and leave the Myth Weavers site alone for now. But I guess we could look at putting some content there to satisfy the conditions if none of the other ads net results?

Really I'll be happy if we can recruit just one more player. I'm considering advertising on Reddit, and looking around to see if there are other options I've missed.

We could technically use a log there, then quickly realize maintaining it is impractical in a week or 2...

I've been monitoring membership, email, possible responses on 3 of the 4 ads, and possible pm's at those sites. There have been views, but no solid interest yet. New players or not I'll set up a chapter 0 soon, and a chapter 1 when GGWOW is back from vacation.

Chapter 0 will be about news reports, before and during the game chapters, and not necessarily in strict chronological order.

My mother-in-law is visiting for the week. I'm working long hours this week. In general I'm not finding time to write. I got the timeline started, but I'll have to dig through a few places to fill it out. Sorry just no time to do much of anything at the moment.

Latest new user is banned as a spambot. It tried creating multiple new threads. Text mostly not in English with mention of viagra.

We do have a couple silent users that are or were part of a mobile game guild I was in. I set aside a space for them although I've since moved on from the game. Not sure if the guild's still active/successful as there were server merges just before I left. The guild forum obviously never took off, although one player was thinking of putting up advice posts before I left (the game lacks a wiki). It's harmless to share a corner of the site, so I'll be leaving it alone. Might consider purging the section if it and the connected users are dormant for a long time.

Still busy but mainly tired. I promise I'll pick up on posting at some point, hopefully soon. You're encouraged to chat, give feedback, ask questions, and all that. I'm always more motivated when I've got player input to fuel me. I'm a little glum that I couldn't interest anyone new, but there's still plot to explore as long as someone's interested.

Oh, hey, sorry for lurking! I've been around all this while!

Maybe we could try some reddit, if everything else has come up empty. That, and I'll try to get creatively targeting.

I'm of course down even with just us, but the more the merrier, as they say!

while more may expand things its never necessarily better and we have a good dynamic and tactics as we stand so we can push on as we are for now and maybe someone will come forward in the future.

RL has me busy as well, as out and travelling with work and still catching up after my holiday. Still checking in regularly and looking forward to getting started as and when things ease for you :)

Thanks guys. I've posted a bit more in chapter 0.

In visiting the old site to take notes I've found it's changed in annoying ways. The thread pages flow into each other, which for me isn't the improvement they probably think it is. There was a pop up ad when I first entered the site. I'm not sure how much of the annoying bits are because the paid subscription lapsed, but I'm still happy we moved somewhere where I've got greater control.

Can't sit down for full posts at work, too choppy. But I think I can squeeze in some draft text and tidy later. Making a new thread for that, don't expect it to make sense.
